White or silver rum is a light and sweet alcoholic beverage with a clean and delicate taste that is made from sugarcane. It is typically kept in stainless steel tanks for one to one and a half years and filtered before being bottled. White rum is an ideal base for cocktails, many of which are not just famous or popular, but rather famous and iconic.

Instructions

Step 1

Daiquiri Daiquiri is not just a cocktail - it is a family of different cocktails based on white rum. The basic, major official version of this drink, recognized by the International Bartenders Association (IBA), consists of 9 parts of white rum, 4 parts of freshly squeezed lime juice and 1 part of sugar syrup. All ingredients are shaken in a shaker and served in a cone-shaped cocktail glass with a high stem.

Step 2

Daiquiri Hemingway or Papa Doble is another cocktail invented by the great writer and connoisseur of spirits. It is much "tougher" than the simple version and contains no sugar at all. It requires 8 parts of white rum, 4 parts of freshly squeezed lime juice, 2 parts of freshly squeezed grapefruit juice and 1 part of Maraschino colorless strong cherry liqueur in a blender. At the very end, add a cup of crushed ice for each intended serving and beat with a blender until the drink begins to foam. Hemingway himself described the appearance of this drink as "the sea waves that seethe at the bow of the ship when it goes at a speed of 30 knots."

Step 3

Another two most popular cocktails from the daiquiri family are banana and strawberry. Both are "frozen" drinks, that is, made using crushed ice and therefore ideal for hot summer parties. A strawberry shake requires 4 parts rum, 2 parts fresh lime juice, 1 part Triple Sec orange liqueur and one spoonful of sugar, a cup of ice, and about 5 fresh strawberries for each serving. Banana daiquiri consists of the same ingredients, but instead of strawberries, use half a banana. All ingredients are put into a blender and whipped at first at low speed to break the ice, and then the speed is increased and waited for the cocktail to froth. Such drinks are served in chilled glasses called Hurricanes - capacious (from 300 to 350 ml), pear-shaped on low and thick legs.

Step 4

Pina Colada This famous drink even has its own plaque. It is located in Puerto Rico, in the city of San Jose on the pediment of the Barrachina Hotel and reads "In this house in 1963 Don Ramon Porta Mingo invented the Pino Colada." I must say that Don Ramon is just one of the bartenders who is credited with the honor of creating this cocktail, but he is the only one whose right to be called the creator is supported by such a weighty argument. For a classic Pina Colada, take one part white rum, one part coconut cream (which is much thicker and not as sweet as coconut milk) and 3 parts pineapple juice. This is also a frozen cocktail, so you need to add crushed ice to it and beat in a blender. It is served, garnished with a slice of pineapple, also in harricane glasses. Of the most interesting variations of this cocktail, it is worth noting a more affordable version - Belize Pina Koloda, where coconut cream is replaced with ordinary condensed milk. And absolutely exotic - the Lava flow cocktail, in which strawberry daiquiri and the classic Pina Colada are splashing.

Step 5

Mojito Another iconic cocktail with white rum is Mojito. This drink is also associated with the name of Ernest Hemingway, even if he did not invent it, but this did not prevent the writer from falling in love with this mixture of white rum and soda. For a classic mojito, you need a tall glass - a highball - in which you should put a couple of fresh mint leaves and a spoonful of sugar. It is worth rubbing the sugar and mint a little so that their taste mixes. Cut one lime in half and squeeze the juice from both halves into a glass, throw one of the halves into it. Add about 50 milliliters of rum, shake and put in a full glass of crushed ice. Top up with soda and garnish with a sprig of mint.
