Honey contains a huge amount of useful vitamins and minerals: vitamins of group B, C, H, as well as zinc, iron, calcium, sodium and so on. But the uniqueness of this product lies in the fact that it contains a lot of enzymes and organic acids. All these substances bring great benefits to the human body.

The constant use of honey helps to improve human metabolism. Also, this product is used in the treatment of tonsillitis and other colds. It saturates the human body with the necessary vital energy and is used to maintain tone. Honey helps to strengthen bone tissue and increase hemoglobin levels.

But honey can lose its beneficial properties if it is improperly stored at home.

What are the optimal conditions for storing honey

Honey interacts very strongly with various odors. He absorbs them into himself. Therefore, it is kept away from strong smelling foods and other substances.

Also, honey ideally retains its useful properties and taste at a moisture content of no higher than 65%. Otherwise, it begins to sour and deteriorate. Another important criterion for the storage of this product is temperature. Honey is usable if it has been stored between 1 and 20 degrees. At a lower temperature, honey will freeze and lose some of its beneficial properties. And at a higher one, it will also start to deteriorate and the process of enzyme breakdown will go.

Be sure to store honey in a dark place. From sunlight, it begins to melt and lose its beneficial properties. And at a temperature of more than 40 degrees, only carbohydrates remain in it and, apart from the nutritional value, this product no longer carries anything.

Honey is best stored in wooden barrels, glass or nickel-plated containers, any enamel or stainless steel containers. But it is highly undesirable to use copper or iron dishes for this.

Can honey be stored in the refrigerator

As you know, the temperature in the refrigerator is in the range from +2 to +6 degrees. And this fully corresponds to the parameters of optimal storage of honey. Also, sunlight does not penetrate into the refrigerator, and the humidity is very rarely high. Therefore, this appliance is the best place to store honey at home. And if it has such a function as "no frost" (supply of dry air) it will become an irreplaceable place for storing this product. In the refrigerator, honey can be and retain its beneficial properties for two years.

To prevent a jar of honey from undesirable odors, it must be sealed with a metal lid or thick edible paper. But you can't put it in the freezer. The temperature will be too low to store this product.
