And herring salted at home is much tastier than the one sold in stores. There are a lot of recipes for salting herring, but there is one time-tested easy and quick way to salt fish.

Step 1

You need to buy a large herring in the store, preferably with a whole skin and without rusty spots. If the herring is frozen, then it must first be defrosted.

Step 2

Rinse the fish well and let the water drain slightly. The herring can be gutted immediately, the head and entrails removed. But it is better to salt it whole, and clean it later.

Step 3

Make a pickle. In order to salt about 1 kg of herring, you will need 1.5 liters of brine.

You need to take 1, 5 liters of water and put to boil. Add 5 tbsp. tablespoons with a slide of salt and 1 tbsp. a spoonful of sugar. If desired, you can add bay leaf, peppercorns, cloves and 1 teaspoon of vinegar essence to the brine.

The boiled brine should be cooled to room temperature.

Step 4

Place the herring in a container. A three-liter jar, an enamel saucepan, or a small basin will do. If you use a pot or bowl, you need a weight to press the fish down. Otherwise, it will pop up.

Step 5

Pour the cooked brine over the herring and place in a cool place.

The herring will be ready in about 48 hours. It will turn out to be lightly salted and very tasty.
