Homemade yeast dough pies can look very fancy. Decorate them with a wire rack, pastry appliqués, or pouring to keep the filling juicy. Richly decorated pies can even be served on a festive table, and modest decorations will make baked goods more attractive for home tea drinking.

Instructions

Step 1

Yeast dough pies can be open or closed. The former are most often decorated with a lattice or strips of dough. Roll a small piece of dough into a thin layer on a floured board. Cut it into strips with scissors or a very sharp knife. A special round cutter is also suitable, giving a beautiful embossed edge. Spread the strips over the filling, forming an oblique grid. Brush the dough with a beaten egg to form a golden brown before going to the oven.

Step 2

The filling itself acts as a decorative element. For these cakes, choose foods with a bright color. For example, baked goods with red lingonberry or orange apricot filling look very nice. Fruit tarts are often complemented with a sour cream filling or a whipped protein “napkin”. The baked goods will look more interesting and the dough will remain soft. An already baked pie is decorated with sour cream, and then immediately cut and served on the table. The proteins are applied to the finished product, after which they are again placed in the oven so that the napkin is slightly browned.

Step 3

A great decoration for an open cake is a sprinkle of butter crumbs or crushed nuts. Such additions are especially tasty with sour jam or dried fruit fillings.

Step 4

Closed pies have no less room for decoration. They can be decorated with fancy cut out dough appliqués. Such decoration is suitable for festive chicken coops, kulebyak and other baking options. Cut decorative items using a custom-made paper template or use metal grooves. Sweet closed pies can be doused with icing sugar or melted chocolate, sprinkled with powdered sugar.

Step 5

Another way to decorate is to give the product a certain shape. It is desirable that the appearance of the pastry be reminiscent of its filling. For example, a fish pie can be in the shape of a stylized fish, a meat pie - a pig or a rabbit. Don't choose too complex shapes. During baking, the yeast dough increases in volume and overly whimsical decor can be lost. For a flavorful cake, bake in a deep silicone or metal pan.
