To make the oatmeal tasty, the first thing you should pay attention to is the shelf life of the product, as well as the packaging. If oatmeal is packed in a plastic bag, then such a product can be stored for up to 1 year. And if cereals or flakes are packed in a cardboard box, then the shelf life is no more than 4 months.

Recently, instant porridge has become increasingly popular. Yes, it is very convenient and fast. But if not only speed is important to you, but also the quality of the product, then give preference to the oatmeal that needs to be cooked for at least 10 minutes. Indeed, in such "quick" cereals, practically no useful substances remain, and they are also supplied with chemical additives, for example, a flavor enhancer and preservatives.

If you choose oatmeal for porridge, then it must be rinsed under running water. Regardless of which method of cooking you choose (in milk or in water), cereals and flakes must be immersed in hot liquid and cook at a low temperature, stirring occasionally. And when the porridge is ready, it must be removed from the stove and left for 5-10 minutes to infuse.

How to cook classic oatmeal.

Pour milk or water into a saucepan, add salt, granulated sugar and heat well. As soon as the liquid is practically boiling, add the washed whole oatmeal and, stirring constantly, cook until tender for half an hour. If you are using flakes, then 10 minutes will be enough for cooking. Once the oatmeal is cooked, put a piece of butter in it, cover and leave for 5 minutes.

How to cook oatmeal in water.

Pour 200 ml of water into a saucepan, dissolve sugar and 1/4 teaspoon of salt in it (you can use dried fruits instead of sugar). Heat well, not boiling a little. Then add 2 tablespoons of cereal. After boiling, reduce the temperature to a low setting and cook for 7-8 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove the prepared porridge from the stove, season with butter and leave for a few minutes under a closed lid.

How to cook oatmeal without cooking.

In order to get healthy oatmeal, it is not at all necessary to buy instant porridge. If you have a coffee grinder, grind 2 tablespoons of oatmeal (Hercules) in it. After that, pour the resulting product with boiling milk or boiling water, add salt and sugar, cover and leave to brew. If desired, you can add dried apricots, raisins, jam, honey, nuts and so on to the finished porridge.
