Salad "Herring under a fur coat" is considered a popular dish of traditional Russian cuisine and has a peculiar taste. There are many recipes, but the most popular is the classic cooking method.
It is necessary
- –1 large salted herring;
- –2-3 medium sized potatoes;
- –One large beet;
- -1-2 onions;
- –0.7 tsp. vinegar (apple cider);
- –1 carrots;
- -2 eggs;
- -salt;
- -mayonnaise.
Instructions
Step 1
Pre-boil vegetables and eggs in fresh water. Remember to cook beets longer than other vegetables. Also boil the eggs separately until steep. Cut the onion into rings with a thin knife or chop with a blender. Next, marinate the onions in vinegar diluted in water in a ratio of 1.5: 1.
Step 2
Carefully remove the skin from the herring, remove the bones and cut into equal small cubes. If you find it difficult to remove small bones, then you can buy ready-made herring fillets in natural oil or in vinegar filling.
Step 3
Take a flat dish and start stacking layers one after another. The first layer is grated potatoes, the second is onions, the third is grated carrots, and the fourth is herring. Every two layers are coated with mayonnaise. Substitute sour cream for mayonnaise if desired. This will make the dish less high in calories. Remember to add some salt to each layer to taste.
Step 4
The top layer is the decoration of the “Herring under a fur coat” salad. Grate the beets so that all layers are completely covered. Then smooth the surface of the salad with a spoon dipped in water. Using an egg grated on a fine grater, create an original pattern on the beet layer. It all depends on your imagination. Wipe off excess vegetables with a damp cloth on the sides of the dish. This will make the salad look neat and even rounded.
