Carrots contain a large amount of useful vitamins and minerals. Doctors recommend eating it fresh at any time of the year: it enhances immunity, improves vision. That is why it is important to save the grown root crops until the next harvest. Carrots of varieties Moscow winter, Callisto, Losinoostrovskaya are better than others for storage.

It is necessary

  • - copper sulfate;
  • - plastic bags;
  • - sand;

Instructions

Step 1

Ventilate and dry the cellar. Prepare a disinfectant: dissolve 3 kg of slaked lime and 300 g of copper sulfate in 10 liters of water. Cover the walls and ceiling of the cellar with this solution 2-3 weeks before storing the carrots.

Step 2

Sort out the carrots. Wipe it lightly with a damp cloth to remove any residual soil. Cut off thin carrot tails and leftover leaves. Spread the root vegetables in 1-2 layers in a dry, dark and cool place for a day.

Step 3

Prepare an onion infusion. Pour 200 g of chopped onions with 10 liters of hot water. Insist during the day. Spray the resulting solution on the carrots. Let it dry.

Step 4

Place the carrots in tight plastic bags. At the same time, sprinkle each layer with fresh sawdust. Top with onion skins. Transfer the bags to the cellar.

Step 5

The more common way to store carrots is in the sand. Line the wooden boxes with thick polyethylene. Place a layer of sand about 2 cm thick. Lay the prepared carrots in layers on top. Sprinkle each layer with slightly damp sand.

Step 6

If there are no boxes, shield a small section of the cellar with planks. Spread a layer of sand about 5 cm thick. Lay the carrots on top so that they do not touch each other. Alternate layers of sand and root vegetables.
