Capelin is a fish that is very affordable for Russians and has quite nutritious properties. It is very easy to cook, especially stew, and the result is a delicious and incredibly healthy dish.
Why is capelin useful?
This small fish contains a large percentage of protein, which is easily absorbed by the human body. With it, you can get the omega-3 fatty acids that are so necessary for the functioning of the brain, liver and heart.
Fluorine, sodium, potassium are found in large quantities in capelin. In addition, the selenium, which this fish is rich in, helps to strengthen the body's immune system. And most importantly, it is a very low-calorie product, so stewed capelin is perfect for dietary nutrition.
Stewed capelin recipes
Stewed capelin in sour cream sauce is a very tasty and easy to prepare dish. It will need the following ingredients:
- 700-800 g of capelin;
- 150 g sour cream;
- 50 g of vegetable oil;
- 2 onions;
- salt and pepper;
- bay leaves, greens.
The fish must be defrosted, sorted out and rinsed thoroughly under running water, dried with a towel. Pour vegetable oil into the pan and wait for it to heat up, put the fish in the oil with all care. The capelin should be placed in tight rows in the pan.
Thus, the capelin must first be fried, this will remove all excess moisture from it. While the fish is fried, you can start making a sauce for stewing. First you need to peel, wash and finely chop the onion. Sour cream must be mixed with pepper, salt and herbs, add half a glass of water to the resulting mixture, preferably boiled.
When the capelin is fried enough, put the onion on top of it, and then pour the sour cream sauce. It is necessary to stew the fish for 5-6 minutes, while it should not be turned over at any of the cooking stages. You can serve fish with a side dish of boiled or baked potatoes, vegetables.
You can immediately stew capelin with potatoes, then you do not need to spend additional time preparing the side dish. To prepare 450 g of capelin you will need:
- 500 g of potatoes;
- 3 onions;
- black pepper in the form of peas, bay leaf;
- salt and pepper to taste.
The fish must be washed, peeled, cut the potatoes into slices, the onions in half rings. First you need to put potatoes in a deep frying pan, then fish and chopped onions. Greens, pepper, salt and bay leaves are stacked on top of all layers. The whole dish must be poured with boiled water so that the products are hidden by 2 cm. The cooking time for such a wonderful dish will be about 20 minutes.
There are many recipes for stewed capelin; sour cream with various spices, tomato paste with carrots are suitable as a sauce. Everything will turn out tasty and healthy.
