Souvlaki is a Greek dish. Souvlaki are prepared at home, in a frying pan, served with dzatziki sauce.

It is necessary

  • - chicken fillet - 1 kg.
  • - vegetable oil - 1 tablespoon
  • - garlic - 7-8 cloves.
  • - salt - to taste
  • - lemon juice - 2 tbsp. l.
  • - oregano
  • - thyme
  • - bamboo skewers
  • For the sauce:
  • - unsweetened yogurt - 200 ml
  • - garlic - 1-2 cloves
  • - a small cucumber - 1 piece
  • - apple cider vinegar - 1 tsp.
  • - vegetable oil

Instructions

Step 1

Cut the chicken fillet into cubes into pieces 2-3 cm in size. Put the chicken in a dish and prepare the marinade - mix the vegetable oil (olive or other, to taste), chopped garlic, lemon juice, oregano, thyme and pour the mixture over the chicken. Leave the chicken to marinate in the butter and herb mixture for two to three hours in the refrigerator.

When the chicken is soaked in the marinade, remove it from the refrigerator. Take a heavy-bottomed frying pan and heat the oil on it. Take bamboo skewers, check that they fit into the pan and string chicken on them. Put the chicken skewers in the pan and fry until tender, turning occasionally.

Step 3

Prepare Greek tzatziki sauce. To do this, take unsweetened yogurt, put it in a dish, grate a cucumber on a fine grater, squeeze out the garlic, put it all in yogurt, add a little vinegar and olive oil. Stir everything well and refrigerate. You can also add some dill to the dzatziki.

Step 4

When the souvlaki are cooked, remove them from the pan, but do not remove the meat from the skewers. Put souvlaki on a wide dish or pita (or lavash), serve dzatziki sauce in one large bowl or divide in portions. When serving, souvlaki should be warm and tzatziki sauce cool. Decorate with olives and bunches of greens.
