The low-alcohol drink, which bears the name of the Italian warrior Giuseppe Garibaldi (1807-1882), is very popular all over the world. The valiant hero fought against foreign intervention and contributed much to the unification of fragmented Italy. He remained in the hearts of the people of his country as a symbol of independence and freedom. The color of the Garibaldi cocktail resembles Giuseppe's fiery red shirt.
Cocktail "Garibaldi": general information
For the first time the Garibaldi cocktail was prepared in Milan in 1861. Despite the fact that several centuries have passed since that time, the recipe for this drink retains its unchanged classic composition: alcoholic drink, ice and fruit juice.
In 1987, the International Bartenders Association (IBA) included the Garibaldi cocktail in a collection of classic recipes.
Perhaps this cocktail became popular due to its simplicity - after all, it is prepared in just a couple of minutes from simple and affordable ingredients. On top of that, it easily quenches your thirst. The red color of this low-alcohol drink is given by Campari bitter, a bitter liqueur based on aromatic herbs and fruits. And by adding peach or pineapple juice, you can add a new touch to the classic aroma and taste of the cocktail.
What you need to make a Garibaldi cocktail
Before proceeding with the actual creation of this masterpiece, prepare everything you need. You will need the following items:
- highball (old fashion, tall glass);
- bartender's knife or zest knife;
- cocktail spoon;
- jigger (measuring cup);
- cocktail tube.
Also prepare the ingredients:
- orange juice - 50ml;
- peach juice - 50ml (optional);
- pineapple juice - 50ml (optional);
- Campari liqueur - 50 ml;
- ice cubes - several pieces;
- orange slice with zest (optional).
Making a Garibaldi cocktail
Now start your sacred rites.
1. Put ice cubes in a highball (quantity as you wish, but not less than 3-4 pieces).
2. Pour in the liquor.
3. Add orange juice (or all of the above juices).
4. Gently mix the ingredients.
5. Insert a tube into the resulting cocktail.
Drink this drink slowly, enjoying its refreshing orange flavor.
The beautiful content of the glass needs no less beautiful decoration. You can decorate the drink with an orange slice with zest. To do this, place this wedge on top of the ice, or slide it over the edge of the highball. That's it, your aperitif is ready! Now with it you can spice up your party with friends or bring brightness to your romantic dinner with your loved one.
The Garibaldi cocktail is the choice of free-spirited and independent women. Men are unlikely to like the sweet taste of a low alcohol drink. Its strength does not exceed 5%. Although, who knows, maybe the representatives of the stronger sex will like such an original combination of its ingredients.
