Stewed cabbage belongs to the category of low-calorie dishes and is perfect for those who want to lose weight or just keep an eye on their figure. It is good both as a side dish and as an independent dish.
It is necessary
-
- white cabbage 1 pc.;
- onion 1 pc.;
- tomato paste 1 tablespoon;
- frying oil;
- salt.
Instructions
Step 1
Butcher the head of cabbage. Remove the top leaves and discard them. Cut the head of cabbage in half, then cut each half into two more pieces. Cut a stump (firm base). Chop each of the four pieces into thin strips. The smaller the stripes, the softer and more tender the finished dish will turn out.
Step 2
Peel the head of the onion (if you take a small one, then two are better), rinse in cool water. Cut the onion into half rings.
Step 3
Heat a saucepan (deep frying pan) over high heat, add a couple of tablespoons of vegetable oil and fry the onion in it until soft and golden brown. Reduce heat and add cabbage to the skillet.
Step 4
Take a large cup and pour boiling water into it, add one or two tablespoons of tomato paste and stir until it is completely dissolved.
Step 5
Pour the resulting tomato liquid over the cabbage, salt and stir. Cover the saucepan with a lid and leave on low heat for half an hour. After this time, open the pan, stir the cabbage and leave to simmer again. The total cooking time is approximately fifty to sixty minutes. Readiness is determined by the softness of the cabbage.
Step 6
Diversify your stew by adding various foods to it. You can surprise your loved ones by making this dish even tastier and healthier. For example, add bell pepper thinly cut into oblong strips into it (you need to add it at the stage of frying the onion, it is better to take two peppers of different colors). Tomatoes will also fit perfectly into this composition.
Step 7
Make your meal more nutritious. Soak half a packet of beans overnight, boil until half cooked before cooking. Fry the onion, add chopped cabbage and half-cooked beans to it, simmer until all products are cooked, pouring them with water and tomato paste.
