Tomatoes are a storehouse of vitamins and minerals. Here there is iron, and potassium, and folic acid, and B vitamins, and vitamin C … It is ground, seasonal tomatoes that are most useful, not to mention their wonderful taste and aroma. During the ripening season, you really want to keep tomatoes for a long time without losing their beneficial properties.
It is necessary
- - tomatoes,
- - box,
- - sawdust or straw.
Instructions
Step 1
It turns out that under the right conditions, fresh tomatoes can be stored until winter. For tomatoes of varying degrees of maturity, you need to create your own conditions. If you do not deal with arranging tomatoes "for the winter" according to all the rules, then keep in mind that they can be stored outdoors on a shelf for 3 days. If you put them in the refrigerator, you can keep the tomatoes for 7 days. Often, slightly unripe tomatoes are taken for storage at room temperature, then they are perfectly preserved for 3 months, gradually ripening.
Step 2
If you are going to store tomatoes for a long time, do the sorting first. For the longest storage, choose medium-sized fruits, it is better if they have an elongated shape, the so-called "plums". Select fruits that are green or dairy.
Step 3
Now take a drawer or basket of a suitable size. The bottom should be laid out with straw or sawdust. Carefully place the tomatoes in a row on the bottom of the box, preferably stalk up. Sprinkle each row with straw or sawdust. This is necessary so that the tomatoes do not crumple, and also so that in the event of a disease of one fetus, the disease does not spread to neighboring ones.
Step 4
It is better to store tomatoes in boxes at a temperature of 8 to 12 degrees Celsius. If the temperature is higher, then the fruits will ripen very quickly, and they will have to be eaten immediately. At a lower temperature, tomatoes simply will not ripen and freeze. The storage room should have air movement, constant circulation. When installing boxes with tomatoes, choose the most optimal place. Among other things, cover the tomatoes from bright light or the room should be dark - in the dark, the fruits will ripen longer than in the light and their color will be smoother.
Step 5
Tomatoes of medium ripeness should also be placed in a box, but the temperature for storing them will need to be lower - about 4-6 degrees. Red, ripe tomatoes require a temperature of 1-2 degrees, put them in the refrigerator for storage.
