Champagne

Champagne can be called one of the most popular wines in the world. Only sparkling wine produced in the Champagne province and meeting the high requirements for this drink can be considered real champagne. All sparkling wines are of high quality, but there are several particularly famous and elite varieties of champagne.

In particular, the Veuve Clicquot brand is widely known in France and abroad. This French wine has been produced since the 19th century. Despite its popularity, the price of this drink remains quite affordable - in France, a bottle of "Veuve Clicquot" two-year aging can be purchased for 20 euros. More expensive is the rosé champagne of this brand, which is rightfully considered one of the best drinks to be served at Christmas.

French sparkling wines not produced in Champagne are called cremant.

Another world famous champagne is Crystal. This wine is considered one of the most expensive in France - collectors are ready to purchase aged wines of this brand for 200 euros or more. However, some experts believe that the qualities of this variety are largely overestimated.

Le chateauneuf du pape

The wines of this region are less well-known in Russia, but both in France and in the rest of Europe they are well-deservedly respected. The farms where Le Chateauneuf du Pape is produced are located between Avignon and Orange, in a region generally known for its simple and solid wines. This brand of wine remains a rare exception of a truly exquisite drink produced in Provence.

Wine production in this region began when the Pope's residence was in Avignon. In many ways, Le Chateauneuf du Pape adopted the traditions of Italian winemaking. This red wine is known for its bright, full-bodied taste with a touch of spice. The cost of young wines of this brand in France is about 25 euros, and aged bottles of the best years can be sold for 100 or more euros.

Sauternes

Sauternes is a special white wine produced in Bordeaux. Sauternes are particularly high in sugar. Since this wine is produced only in 5 settlements, its price is quite high. Sauternes is traditionally drunk at Christmas, serving this wine with foie gras with fig confiture and toast. This wine can be stored for a long time, only improving its taste.

Despite the fact that Sauternes is a sweet wine, it has historically been considered a masculine rather than a feminine drink.

Back in the 19th century, Sauternes were very popular in Russia. Sauternes Château d'Yquem was considered one of the most expensive brands both then and now. The best wines from this producer cost collectors 600 euros or more.
