Sanding of beets and carrots

Store these vegetables in separate drawers. Before laying, carrots and beets must be thoroughly dried, otherwise their roots will soon rot. Then the container is taken and clean paper is laid out on its bottom. Then it is sprinkled with sand (a layer of about 2-3 cm), the moisture content of which should not exceed 20%. Then the beets are laid out in one row. Then it is completely covered with sand, then the roots are again placed in the container, and so on. It is important that the space between the lid and the root vegetables remains about 10 cm. Sanding carrots is carried out in the same way, but in a different container. For 1 kg of vegetables, about 500 g of sand should be consumed. It is required to store boxes with root vegetables in a cool place; in severe frosts, it is recommended to cover it with a warm blanket.

Storing carrots and beets in bags in winter

Such root crops are perfectly preserved in bags made of thick plastic film. But before you start putting them there, you need to sort the vegetables. It is necessary to remove damaged and tender roots. Then the beets are transferred to some bags, and the carrots to others. You do not need to tie them. It is required to put the bags in a vertical position. The temperature in the room where they will be subsequently stored should not be more than + 5 ° C and less than 0.

Storing apples: basic ways

Most often, apples are stored in wooden boxes. First, each fruit must be cleaned of impurities and make sure that there is no rot on it. Then you should take paper, preferably thick paper (if there is none, then use ordinary newspapers), then you need to wrap each apple in it, and then put it in a container. During this, you should not press the fruits too hard against each other. Be sure to cover the wooden box with a lid and put it in a cool place - in the cellar or on the glassed-in balcony.

You can store apples in containers made of plywood. First of all, the fruits are sorted out. Then a layer of paper is lined at the bottom of the container, and sawdust is poured on top of it (if they are not at hand, then use ordinary straw). Then apples are laid out in one row. Then they are sprinkled with a layer of sawdust (about 2-3 cm). Then another row of fruits is laid out and so on. It is also necessary to store apples in such a container in a cool place with a humidity of about 80%, avoiding freezing.
