It is customary to store honey in a dark place at a temperature not exceeding twenty degrees. In the refrigerator, the crystallization process is accelerated, which, however, does not in any way affect the quality of honey. On the contrary, crystallization suggests that the honey is real, not falsified. Is it possible to freeze it?
The most popular container in which honey is sold is a glass jar. According to experts, for long-term storage, ideally, it should be made of dark glass. However, for freezing, such a container is not the best option. Before placing honey in the freezer, it must be transferred to a plastic container or bag. You should also leave some free space, because, after freezing, it will increase in size. It is necessary to defrost honey gradually, at room temperature, in no case speeding up this process with the help of, for example, hot water. Sudden changes in temperature are extremely harmful to this product.
Delicious dummy
However, there is no point in freezing honey. This is a product with an almost infinite shelf life. If you store it in a sealed container, keep it away from sunlight, do not overheat and, in addition, purchased it from a trusted beekeeper who does not add anything extra to the product, then in a few years honey will delight you with its taste and useful properties. Moreover, it is as easy as shelling pears to find a suitable place for a jar of honey even in a small apartment. In the freezer, however, it will take up a significant place. In addition, when stored in a freezer, there may not be a trace of benefit, especially if the temperature drops below minus twenty degrees Celsius. And, expecting quick relief from this product for a cold, you will simply be eating a sweet pacifier. But in the culinary business, honey will still be at its best: it will not deteriorate and will have the same characteristic taste. On the shelf in the closet, honey will have anti-inflammatory and immunostimulating properties for a long time.
Ideal temperature
If you are still afraid of the prospect of keeping honey for a long time without any refrigeration and you decide to leave it at least in an ordinary refrigerator, then choose a place away from the freezer. A temperature of about fifteen degrees will be the most successful. Do not forget about the commodity neighborhood. Although closed, but no longer a sealed jar, it will not save honey from interacting with the environment. Honey easily absorbs odors, so it is not recommended to store it next to fish or garlic. And remember, whichever storage method you choose, honey will have to be kept in the same state until the very end. So if honey has been frozen once, it should remain in the freezer. Therefore, it is best to freeze it in portions, so as not to defrost and refreeze the entire container each time.
