Among the nuts, macadamia can be easily distinguished for its taste and unique history. The nut grows on the Australian continent, and is also called the Queensland nut. The harvest from one tree will amount to a whole centner, but for a tree to bear fruit, it takes about ten years.
A bit of history
Macadamia is named after John McAdam from Scotland. Since the nut is really of great value, Europeans in Australia organized the Macadamia Lovers Association. In addition to the taste that amazed Europe, macadamia was used as a currency in settlements between Europeans and local aborigines.
Around 1970, Australians, with the support of the state, began to plant trees and invest in the walnut industry; taxes were not levied by the state. Within a couple of years, they managed to collect a rich harvest of nuts - up to seventy tons per year.
Walnut plantations also grow in America, California, South Africa, Hawaii and Brazil, but five out of nine species grow only in Australia.
