Even the most homely mistress can have times when the refrigerator is practically empty, there is almost nothing in the closet, and there is still a day or two before the paycheck. But you can cook dinner for a family even from a minimal set of products.
If there is “nothing at all” in a house made of food, this is not entirely true. Let's say you find a drying loaf in the bread bin, and in the refrigerator a couple of eggs, a small piece of half-dried cheese, boiled potatoes dying from inattention and two sausages that are starting to wither, but still edible. The set of products in different refrigerators, of course, differs, but at least something suitable for food is found.
What can be made from a stale loaf of bread
Grease a baking dish with any butter - butter, vegetable, and margarine will do. Cut the loaf into slices and soak in milk, and if not, plain water will do. Put half of the pieces into a mold. If there is jam, spread a layer of loaf on top and cover with other pieces on top. If there is an egg, beat it with a couple of tablespoons of milk or water, pour the mixture over the cake and place in the oven for 15-20 minutes. It turns out a lush, hearty dish like a fruit pie.
This recipe is versatile and can help out in any situation. You can put any filling you like - sprats, and boiled potatoes, and canned fish, cheese, stew, minced meat, cottage cheese will do. It will turn out to be a good dish, it is only important not to overdry it in the oven.
What can be made from leftover potatoes
You can make delicious cutlets from a couple of boiled potatoes. Grind the potatoes in a blender with the addition of an egg and a few pieces of stale bread. Salt everything, form cutlets, fry in oil.
A light soup can be made from a potato with sausage. For this, finely chopped ingredients are poured with water, and then boiled until the potatoes are boiled down to a puree state. If you have a can of canned fish, you get an ear. You can cut potatoes into smaller pieces, boil them until tender and mix with canned food in the same saucepan. Boil everything and serve.
Canned fish and boiled potatoes can be used to make fish croquettes. Drain the oil from the jar, mash the fish with a fork. Grate the potatoes on a fine grater. Mix potatoes and fish, add egg. Stale bread can be used to make bread crumbs by grinding it with a grater. Dry the bread crumbs in a hot dry skillet. Form croquettes from the fish and potato mass, roll in breadcrumbs and fry in oil.
You can experiment with food - if there are crab sticks in the freezer, try adding them to the mixture for the previous recipe. Get crab-flavored cutlets. You can even make cutlets from a wilted cabbage head. Of course, such meals should not be used in the daily diet, but as a temporary measure in order to make it to paycheck, such food is fine.
