Potatoes have become part of the diet of the inhabitants of our country several centuries ago. It has become a staple on tables in many families. But still, very often the question arises: how long does it take to boil potatoes in this or that case?
Despite the high calorie content, potatoes are of great benefit to the human body. This is due to the fact that it contains a large amount of starch, potassium, bromine, cobalt, vitamins C, B, and so on. Potatoes improve digestion, improve the work of the cardiovascular system, have a diuretic effect in unsalted form, and also improve metabolism in the human body. Both adults and children adore potatoes for their pleasant taste and a huge number of different ways of cooking.
You don't need to have any special knowledge and skills to cook potatoes. Soups, side dishes, salads, cutlets, pies and so on are made from it. But the easiest way to prepare it is to boil it in a uniform.
To do this, several potatoes are thoroughly washed in water and all dirt is removed from the surface of the peel. Then they are placed in a saucepan and poured with water, which is heavily salted, about 1 tbsp. l. per liter of water. If the potatoes are young, then after boiling, they are cooked in their uniform for 15 minutes, and older ones - 20-25 minutes. After that, it is placed in cold water for 1 minute. It is not necessary to peel young potatoes. Its peel contains many useful trace elements.
Another way to prepare this vegetable is with mashed potatoes. In this case, the cooking time directly depends on the size of the root crop. Small and medium potatoes are boiled for 20 to 25 minutes after boiling water, and large ones for a longer time. Therefore, to speed up the process of making mashed potatoes, cut the peeled tubers into small pieces before cooking.
It will take at least 10 minutes to cook potatoes in the microwave, and about half an hour in a multicooker, depending on the model.
To find out whether the potatoes are boiled or not, after about 15-20 minutes they pierce it either with a knife or fork, or with an ordinary toothpick. If they stick to the middle of the potato without much effort, then it is ready. At the same time, white potatoes are better for soups, and yellow potatoes for mashed potatoes and salads.
During the preparation of the soup, the potatoes are one of the first to be placed in a saucepan and boiled until half cooked. This process can take 15-20 minutes after the water boils. And then the rest of the ingredients are added.
