For the first time GMO products appeared in the 70s of the XX century. It was then that scientists developed a technique for introducing foreign genes into the body's DNA. Since then, there has been a debate about whether the products of genetic engineering are dangerous for the human body.
GMO products: research by scientists
According to research by Russian and foreign scientists, genetically modified foods have a negative effect on the human body. Moreover, children of the very young age are already exposed to them. The child's body is highly sensitive to various allergens. Genetically modified soy, which is found in many infant formula, is one of them.
Allergies caused by transgenic products can provoke the emergence in children of various chronic diseases of the skin, digestive organs, nervous and endocrine systems, etc. An increase in the incidence of allergies has also been recorded in adults whose diet contains genetically modified foods.
The danger of GMO products for expectant mothers has also been identified. Regularly eating them, a pregnant woman can harm the health of her unborn child even in the process of his intrauterine development. In the course of experiments carried out on rodents, scientists have found that damaged DNA gets into the organs of the fetus and accumulates there, causing various mutations and other unpredictable effects.
According to official research, the use of GMO plants by rodents also led to serious problems with their gastrointestinal tract. In a group of animals kept in similar conditions, but fed on ordinary potatoes, no negative changes in health were recorded.
Scientists around the world are sounding the alarm about the extremely negative impact of genetically modified foods on the body's immune system. Thus, studies on rodents have shown that the number of cells that regulate the immune function of the body has decreased in individuals of the group fed with transgenic food. In the same way, the relationship between the consumption of GMO products and the occurrence of cancer was confirmed. Genetic engineering creates problems for vegetarians too, introducing animal genes into plant foods.
Genetic engineering around the world
In many countries of the world, including Germany, Greece, France, the import, cultivation and sale of transgenic varieties of vegetables, including maize MO No. 810, developed by the world's largest manufacturer and supplier of GMO products, Monsanto (USA), are prohibited. The situation is so serious that even in the United States itself they are thinking about the problem of maintaining health and refusing transgenic food.
In Russia, some varieties of transgenic products have been approved for use, including several varieties of soybeans, potatoes, corn, beets and rice.
