The unusual combination of cabbage and ham results in an excellent side dish that can be served with mashed potatoes or rice.

The head of cabbage should be finely chopped and lightly squeezed with your hands so that the cabbage becomes softer.

The onion must be cut into rings, the carrots - into slices.

Cut the tomatoes into cubes and the ham into small pieces.

Pour vegetable oil into a saucepan, heat it up and add cabbage. Fry it over high heat for several minutes, remembering to turn it over so that it does not burn.

After that, add onion rings and carrot slices to the stewpan. Mix everything and fry over moderate heat for 4-6 minutes.

Next, you need to put tomatoes, salt, spices, sugar, pepper. You can also throw a bay leaf. All ingredients must be mixed, covered and simmer for 30 minutes over low heat.

After the time has elapsed, you need to add pieces of ham to the cabbage, cover again and continue to simmer for another 10-12 minutes.
