Sometimes you really want to taste strawberries or raspberries, but the summer season has not yet arrived. Fortunately, supermarkets abound in frozen berries: even make jam, at least eat like that. However, when buying an ice cream product, you should adhere to some rules.
First, evaluate the entire range presented. Often, goods with an expiring date are placed on top so that they can be disassembled faster. Take the time to look into the very interior of the refrigerator to pick fresher berries.
Pay attention to the packaging. It is good if it is transparent - the appearance of the berries will be easier to determine. Contrary to all beliefs, the color of frozen strawberries or raspberries may not always be bright red. Under the influence of cold, the red berry becomes slightly burgundy, and the blue (blueberry, for example) acquires a cold bluish tint.
In a sealed package, do not hesitate to probe each berry - it feels like the berry should have a rounded shape. If shapeless protrusions are felt under the fingers, most likely ice occupies most of the package.
The packaging itself must be dry. Moisture droplets indicate malfunctions in the refrigerator, which means that the berries have already been defrosted and re-frozen more than once.
Inspect the bag for leaks - no damage to the seams. Shake the package lightly: the berries should knock against each other. If there is no characteristic tapping, the berries were thawed and stuck together when re-frozen.
It is worth noting that frozen berries retain their vitamin complex only in the case of shock (instant) freezing. Best of all, in cold conditions, black currant retains the beneficial properties. After freezing and defrosting, strawberries, as a rule, become tasteless and bland. Is that suitable for compote.
After purchase, berries cannot be poured with hot water or defrosted in the microwave - all residues of useful properties will evaporate. It is best to place the package in a deep plate and refrigerate in the fruit section for a day. Or let the berries thaw at room temperature.
