To eat pine nuts, you need to wait for autumn, since it is during this period that the cedar cones become hard and can be peeled without much effort. But what if you want to try nuts in the summer?
It is necessary
- - pan
- - bumps
- - water
- - grass
- - skimmer
Instructions
Step 1
The cone kernels mature long before the "shell" becomes hard and dry. To dry a pine cone, try boiling it. Collect the required number of cones and look for a capacious saucepan, but only one with which you will not be sorry to part with it after cooking. The fact is that, due to high temperatures, the emitted resin will inevitably settle on the walls, and it is almost impossible to wash them.
Step 2
Place the cones on the bottom of the container, fill them so that they are completely under water. Another subtlety: to keep the budding buds underwater, place a dense layer of grass on top. If you are going to save the decoction to use it for cosmetic or medicinal purposes, put the herb that should be in the decoction. In addition, a sufficiently dense layer of grass will prevent the emitted resin from settling back on the buds.
Step 3
After boiling, leave the brew to simmer over low heat. You can remove it from the stove when you feel a specific resinous smell (but no longer than 45 minutes). On average, it will take 20-30 minutes for the pine cones to open. By the way, it is more appropriate to cook them alone, since not all family members will enjoy the heavy aroma exuded. It is even better if you choose an open-air location for this procedure.
Step 4
Remove the pan from the heat, and use a slotted spoon to catch the grass. After that, remove the cones from the boiling water and lay them either on a spread cloth, for example, an old towel, or on a surface that will allow the water to drain. And when the cones have cooled down, you can easily peel them by hand, as after boiling they become hard and there is no resin left on them.
