Instructions

Step 1

If you decide to buy the healthiest yoghurt, look for the words “Contains live bacteria” or “Contains live yoghurt culture” on the packaging. Please note that such a product has a limited shelf life - no more than three weeks - and you need to look for it in a refrigerated display case.

Step 2

Read the label of the selected yoghurt carefully. The dietary food product should contain as few additives as possible. Ideally, natural yoghurt contains milk and yoghurt bacteria. But more often casein, whey, emulsifiers can be included in its composition. All these additives significantly reduce the price of the product.

Step 3

If you are interested in a product with a minimum calorie content, choose yogurt without sugar and fruit additives. Sweeteners include honey, fructose, maple syrup, or corn syrup. Note that muesli added to yogurt may contain sugar as well.

Step 4

Natural yogurt can be made from regular or skim milk. Accordingly, its calorie content can range from 250 to 100 kcal. There are calcium-fortified foods - this information can also be found on the packaging.

Step 5

Pasteurized milk is quite acceptable as a raw material. But if the product has passed pasteurization after fermentation, there are no living bacteria left in it. Therefore, see if there is a mark on the label of the selected yoghurt that the product was cooked after fermentation.

Step 6

When choosing yogurt with fruit flavors, pay attention to whether it contains natural fruits or only flavors and flavorings.

Step 7

Examine the selected box or jar. If the lid on it is swollen or the packaging is broken, refuse to purchase. Please note that even a high-quality product deteriorates if stored improperly.

Step 8

Check the expiration date of the product. Try not to buy a product that is nearing the end of its sale period. If you need to purchase several of the same packages, check the date stamped on each one. It happens that goods from different lots are put on one shelf and one of the boxes you bought may well turn out to be expired.

Step 9

Take a close look at the special price yoghurts. It is possible that in this way the store is trying to get rid of stale illiquid goods.
