Cocoa butter is an extract of fat from cocoa beans. It is used in cosmetology and the food industry. Cocoa butter is mainly used for making chocolate; it gives the chocolate products a delicate, uniform texture. Also, cocoa butter is a central component of many cosmetics. It is often added to soaps, shampoos, and lotions. How can you get real cocoa butter?
It is necessary
- - Cocoa beans;
- - grinder, or coffee grinder;
- - a hammer;
- - sieve;
- - press.
Instructions
Step 1
Rinse the cocoa beans thoroughly in clean cold water and dry.
Step 2
Place the cocoa beans evenly on an ovenproof dish and roast them in the oven at 40 to 60 degrees Celsius for 90 minutes.
Step 3
Leave the cocoa beans to cool at room temperature.
Step 4
Using a hammer, beat off the cocoa beans lightly to separate the beans from the outer shell. After frying, the shell should have already come off slightly.
Step 5
Place the processed cocoa beans in a sieve. Stir the cocoa beans with gentle pressure movements so that the shell eventually remains on the surface of the sieve, and the beans fall into the container.
Step 6
Using a grinder (a small device for grinding spices or tobacco) or a coffee grinder, grind the refined cocoa beans to a powdery state. The heat from the grinder will melt the fat in the beans, gradually giving the cocoa a thinner consistency.
Step 7
Extract the cocoa butter from the powdered beans by pressing using a commercial quality cocoa butter extruder, expeller or screw press.
