Hot aromatic mulled wine is an indispensable drink for chilly winter and autumn evenings. You can cook mulled wine from red or white wine, prepare a non-alcoholic version based on juice, add a variety of fruits and spices to the mixture. The main thing is not to boil the drink so that it retains its aroma.
Christmas mulled wine with cognac
The amount of spice depends on your taste. If you like more spicy mulled wine, you can increase the set by adding, for example, a few black peppercorns. Do not use ground spices, otherwise the drink will turn out cloudy.
You will need:
- 1 liter of dry red wine;
- 200 g of liquid honey;
- 7 pcs. carnations;
- 1 small piece of cinnamon;
- 2 star anise stars;
- 3 tbsp. spoons of cognac or brandy;
- 1 tbsp. a spoonful of black tea;
- nutmeg to taste.
Pour wine into a saucepan, add liquid honey and spices. Heat the mixture without bringing it to a boil. Strain mulled wine, pour in cognac or brandy and pour the drink into warmed thick-walled glasses. Serve with gingerbread or dry biscuits.
Mulled white wine with fruit
Mulled wine made from white wine has a particularly delicate taste. It can be supplemented with fruit juice such as pineapple, apple or orange.
You will need:
- 750 ml of dry white wine;
- 250 ml canned pineapple juice;
- a few rings of fresh pineapple;
- 2 sticks of cinnamon;
- a pinch of nutmeg;
- 2 tbsp. tablespoons of sugar;
- a slice of fresh ginger.
Add sugar, cinnamon, finely chopped ginger root, nutmeg to dry white wine. Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring thoroughly to dissolve the sugar completely. Pour in pineapple juice, stir and heat for a few more minutes. Place sliced pineapples on the bottom of warmed glasses and pour hot mulled wine over them. Serve with a straw and a long-handled spoon. Dry biscuits or crackers can be served separately.
New Year's mulled wine with liqueur
Serve this spicy drink with a pleasant citrus flavor to the New Year's table. Tangerines, limes, or grapefruits can be used in place of oranges.
You will need:
- 750 ml of dry red wine;
- 1 large orange;
- 2 tbsp. spoons of brown sugar;
- 5 black peppercorns;
- nutmeg;
- 1 stick of cinnamon;
- 6 pcs. carnations;
- 2 tbsp. tablespoons of orange liqueur.
Cut the zest from the orange, squeeze the juice. Pour red wine into a saucepan, add sugar, spices and orange zest. While stirring, bring the mixture to a boil. Pour in orange juice, heat for a couple more minutes. Strain the drink, add liqueur, stir and pour into warmed glasses. Garnish each with a curl of zest and serve with shortbread or croutons.
