The mastic orchid turns out to be so believable that you can't even believe in its artificial origin. Such a flower will decorate a cake, will look great in a vase and will become an original gift.
With the help of mastic, you can create unusual decorations for cakes - sculpt figures of the bride and groom on a wedding cake, decorate pastries with flowers. An orchid made of snow-white mastic looks especially amazing on the surface of the cake. The flower turns out to be so believable that it is almost impossible to distinguish it from the real one. You can attach it to a piece of wire and place it in a vase.
How to make mastic
First you need to prepare the mastic itself. For this you will need:
- 250 g icing sugar;
- 8-9 teaspoons of water;
- 1 teaspoon of gelatin.
Soak gelatin in water for 30 minutes. Stir it periodically so that it does not stick together into a single mass. Then the gelatin should be heated over a fire, stirring without boiling. When it melts, remove from heat and add sifted icing sugar.
The mass must be well mixed with a spoon in a bowl, and then on the table, adding starch or powdered sugar. It should turn into a smooth ball. The mastic is ready!
Molds or stencil
After that, you can start creating a sweet masterpiece. For him you will need:
- mastic;
- molds or stencil:
- a ball for edge thinning;
- molds;
- satin ribbon;
- starch;
- foil;
- sugar syrup.
If the farm has special molds for cutting out the details of this flower, then you can take them. If not, then first draw the floral parts on a piece of cardboard and then cut them out. In total - 4 parts.
Two are identical. These will be the petals of a sweet orchid. They are round, have one small rectangle on the bottom side. It is with the help of them that the mastic petals are connected to each other.
The next part consists of three, symmetrically located, oval petals. To make such a stencil, first draw an isosceles triangle on cardboard, and then a petal at each vertex.
The last component is the smallest. This is the middle of the flower - the stamen. It looks like a butterfly with antennae and not very large wings.
Making an orchid
Making a flower is easy. The layer of sweet dough must be rolled out thinly, it should be 1-2 mm thick.
To prevent the mastic from sticking to the rolling pin and hands, sprinkle them with a small amount of starch.
Now you can cut out parts using a stencil or using molds. To make the orchid look like a real one, use molds to give it texture.
To make the edges of the petals slightly wavy, take a souvenir pen, on the edge of which there is a decorative ball or other round object, and give the petals “waviness”.
Take a sheet of cling foil. Shape it into a funnel by making a small indentation in the middle. First, lay the three-petal piece. Use your finger to lightly hammer the middle of the part into the funnel. Coat the part with sugar syrup and place 2 symmetrical petals on it on the right and left. Glue the stamen last.
It remains to let the flower dry thoroughly, and then paint it with food paints and admire the graceful creation.
