Butter and margarine are the most common foods to complement morning breakfasts and sandwiches. But what is their usefulness? And which of the above is less harmful?

Butter and margarine contain almost the same number of calories in 1 tablespoon - 100 calories and about 12 grams of fat. The main difference is that butter and margarine have different types of fat.

Margarine contains more anti-inflammatory healthy mono- and polyunsaturated fats. But oil is mainly composed of saturated fats, which negatively affect heart health and blood cholesterol.

But even with the saturated fat in butter, butter is superior to margarine in health benefits. Why? And because many brands of margarine contain an even more dangerous component called trans fats. This type of fat is the most unhealthy and causes heart problems and, as a result, negatively affects the overall health of the body.

Considering the downsides of both butter and margarine, it is possible to find alternatives to both. A healthier substitute is Greek yogurt, for example. Much less calories and healthier, Greek yogurt is a great addition to your morning toast.

If you are still an adherent of more hearty breakfasts and the choice remains either in butter or margarine, then choose the lesser of two evils - avoid trans fats and choose high-quality butter.
