There are expensive wines that are sold in specialized stores, where it is much more difficult to make a mistake. At most, you can buy a wine that is not quite in your area of preference, but it will most likely be of good quality. Buying mid-range wine in brick-and-mortar stores is like wandering around with your eyes closed - each label says the wine is good and tasty, and the opposite is often found at home.
Instructions
Step 1
Take sweet or dry wine. In Russia, semi-sweet and semi-dry wines are quite common, but in the producing countries almost no one drinks them, so they are made from residual raw materials, often not the best. A quality semi-sweet wine requires significant production costs and is usually not sold in budget stores. If semi-sweet or semi-dry wines are bottled at a local winery, then most likely dry wine and wort were used as raw materials. To prevent such a mixture from fermenting, sulfur dioxide is added to it in large quantities, which negatively affects the well-being in the morning.
Step 2
The manufacturer must be clearly indicated on the label. There are exceptions, but in the vast majority of cases, good manufacturers do not hesitate to write their name in large letters on the front of the label. Also, good producers always write what year the wine is harvested and from what varieties the drink you are purchasing is made from. The exception where the harvest year is not specified is sparkling wines, which are often made from mixtures of different years. If the grape varieties are not indicated, then this is either a low-quality wine made from mixtures of varying degrees of maturity, or, conversely, an expensive and high-quality wine, which is still difficult to find in a regular store.
Step 3
In most cases, if the bottle indicates the aging period in oak barrels, you will be able to buy good wine, because it does not make sense for the producer to age the bad in barrels, this is an expensive pleasure that, although it will somewhat improve the bad wine, but not so as to recoup expenses. Only good wines withstand.
Step 4
A good sign is an indication that the producing country has carried out quality control of your chosen wine. Winemaking associations all over the world have their own standards, they are different, but if the wine meets the quality criteria of their country, then you can already count on a good drink.
Step 5
A rather dubious indicator is the name of the importer. However, in some cases, it might work. First, find the importer's name on the bottle with the most expensive wines. Then check out the cheapest wines, which are usually found on the lower shelves. If the names of the importers match, this is bad for expensive wines. As a rule, one importer deals with a narrow niche of wines that are in the same price range and are similar in quality.
Step 6
An important criterion is the cost of the wine. You hardly believe in miracles and expect to buy good wine for 100 rubles. A more or less high-quality drink can be purchased at a price of at least 250 rubles, with the exception of sales and promotions organized by large stores.
