Despite the fact that dumplings are considered a dish of Ukrainian cuisine, they are popular and much loved outside this country. Dumplings are called dumplings siblings. It is necessary

    • 2 cups of flour;
    • ¾ a glass of cold water;
    • 200 g bacon or lard with meat layer;
    • 2 onions;
    • 4 potatoes;
    • a bunch of dill;
    • ¼ teaspoon of salt.

Instructions

Step 1

To make dough for dumplings, sift two glasses of flour along with a pinch of salt into a large container. Add 150 ml cold water and knead the dough. It should turn out to be elastic and resilient. Roll the dough into a ball, wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for thirty minutes.

Step 2

To prepare the filling, wash and peel the potatoes. Cut it into large slices, put in a saucepan, cover with water and boil until tender. Season with salt before cooking.

Step 3

Chop the bacon or meat-veined lard into small pieces. Wash the dill, dry it and chop finely. Peel two large heads of onions, chop finely and fry in a pan with bacon or bacon. Mash the boiled potatoes with a mashed potato, add a part of the onion fried with bacon, chopped dill. Stir the filling well until smooth.

Step 4

Sprinkle flour on the tabletop and roll out the chilled dough as thin as possible. Using a glass or a round mold, cut out circles from the dough layer. Put some potato filling in the center of each, brush the edges with water, form dumplings, blind and pinch tightly. This must be done very carefully, otherwise the filling will simply fall out during the cooking process.

Step 5

Boil water in a large saucepan and add salt to taste. Dip the dumplings in small batches in boiling water, reduce the heat a little and cook for 5-7 minutes. Serve with melted bacon, fried onions and dill.
