In connection with the latest prohibitive measures of Rosselkhoznadzor and Rospotrebnadzor in relation to fruits, vegetables, juices and canned food supplied from Moldova, Poland and Ukraine, on September 1, an independent journalist and freelancer conducted a survey of 126 consumers (age from 24 to 47, residents of large cities of the Russian Federation, from income from 26 thousand rubles, who visit grocery stores at least once a week) on social networks (VKontakte and Facebook).
The journalist was not interested in politics, attitude towards the authorities and the measures taken, as well as their legality. Only the consumer market and the purchases made, for which the following questions were asked.
Do you know about the introduction of a ban on the supply of Moldovan fruits and canned food to Russia?
- yes: 15 people;
- no: 111 people.
You know about the introduction of a ban on the import of juices, baby food and some types of canned food from Ukraine:
- yes: 14 people;
- no: 112 people.
Do you know about the ban on the supply of Polish fruits and vegetables?
- yes: 54 people;
- no: 72 people.
Perhaps this difference between the number of those who knew about the prohibitive measures was due to the large coverage in the media. After that, the journalist decided to find out how the respondents are familiar with the range of products imported from these countries. What fruits does Moldova supply to Russia?
- grapes: 28 people;
- apples: 12 people;
- plums: 8 people;
- I don't know: 78 people.
It is interesting that when asked what canned vegetables Moldova ships to the Russian market, all the respondents found it difficult to give an answer. Moreover, about 50% of the interviewees were sure of the dominance of domestic preserves on the store shelves, which they buy.
The next question was about canned food from Ukraine, which, as it turned out, Russian consumers know a little better.
What brands of Ukrainian canned food are sold in Russia:
- "Veres" (called green peas, mustard, pickled cucumbers and corn): 12 people;
- "Nizhyn" (only canned tomatoes and cucumbers were known): 5 people;
- I can't name a single trade mark: 109 people.
What kind of fruits does Poland ship to the Russian market?
- apples: 49 people;
- pears: 27 people;
- plums: 11 people;
- I don't know: 39 people.
At the same time, the interviewees could not name a single type of Polish vegetables that Russia imports. The final or final question concerned the development of the current situation and the consequences of these decisions.
Is a shortage of the above mentioned foodstuffs possible in Russia:
- yes: 17 people;
- no: 109 people.
The opinions of the last 109 optimists were distributed as follows (generalized answers):
- this decision will become a reason for the development of domestic production, which will occupy a market niche: 80 people;
- imported products will be able to replace the suppliers of the southern countries of the former USSR: 15 people;
- this is not meat or bread, so the absence from the market is not so important: 14 people.
In general, as can be clearly seen from all the above polls, consumers were quite calm at the beginning of autumn, especially since many did not even know about the prohibitive measures of Rosselkhoznadzor and Rospotrebnadzor.
The Russians did not expect then a strong deficit and empty shelves, but, as the results of numerous polls by VTsIOM and other organizations show, by November 1, this situation had radically changed.
