Pyzy is a popular Polish dish. It consists of grated potato dumplings, with or without filling.
Polish potato pyzy, with its simplicity of preparation and relative cheapness, can diversify the everyday menu. Pyzy can be cooked in various ways: boil in boiling water or steam, for example. And the most delicious pyzy are obtained if you bake them in the oven.
It is necessary
- - potatoes - 4 pcs.;
- - starch - 2 tablespoons;
- - salt - to taste;
- - water - 150 ml;
- - vegetable oil - 1 tablespoon;
- - onion - 1 pc.
- For filling:
- minced meat, mushrooms, spinach, lentils, boiled eggs, etc. optional.
Instructions
Step 1
To prepare pyz, take four large potato tubers of approximately the same size. Peel three of them, cut at random.
Then pour hot water over the prepared potatoes and cook until cooked through. When the potatoes are soft enough, drain all the water and mashed the potatoes.
Step 2
While the potatoes are boiling, peel the remaining tuber and grate it raw on the finest grater, on the one that is used to make fruit puree for the first feeding for children.
Put the resulting potato mass on a sieve or cheesecloth folded in several layers and squeeze out the juice.
Step 3
Now mix the raw potatoes with the hot boiled ones, seasoning to taste. And put in potato or cornstarch. It will need about two tablespoons or a little more. The potato dough should be flexible enough and easy to gather into a ball.
Step 4
You can use anything as a filling. This can be fried minced meat, in which you can put finely chopped greens, onions, pickles, boiled eggs, etc.
It can also be mashed lentils, peas, or other legumes. Chopped eggs, cottage cheese or quail eggs, boiled and peeled, can be put inside the potato pyz.
You can also use raw spinach cut into strips, stewed vegetables or mushrooms as a filling.
Step 5
Divide the dough into 7 to 8 pieces. Roll each part of the dough into a ball, from which form a cake in the palm of your hand. Place the filling in the center, join the edges and roll in your hands to get a round or oval pie without seams. Place in a baking dish.
Pour 150 ml of water into the mold, put the onion, previously finely chopped and stewed in a tablespoon of vegetable oil.
Step 6
Bake at 200 degrees for 15 minutes. Remove the dish from the oven and let stand for 5 to 10 minutes. Place the pyzy carefully over the serving plates.
Before serving, you can sprinkle the potato pyzy with fried onions or fresh bacon cracklings.
