Shortbread dough serves as the basis for many dishes of not only Russian, but also foreign cuisine. It is used in sweet baked goods and various unconventional recipes. It is not difficult to prepare and can be stored well for up to several days in the refrigerator.

- 250 g flour;
- 100 g butter;
- 3 tbsp icing sugar;
- 2-3 s.l. ice water;
- a pinch of salt.
Instructions
Step 1
Sift the flour through a sieve into a bowl. Add salt and powdered sugar. Mix thoroughly.
Step 2
Dice the butter and place in the flour. Stir until the butter is completely doused in flour. Gently rub the butter into the flour with your fingertips until a greasy crumbs form. In appearance, the mixture should resemble bread crumbs.
Step 3
Add water by gently sprinkling it over the dough. Gently pick up the dough with a knife. Then set the knife aside and gently knead the shortbread dough with your fingers. It should be smooth and peel off easily from the sides of the bowl. Add more water if necessary.
Step 4
After you have kneaded the dough, place it in a plastic bag and refrigerate for 25-30 minutes. This is necessary in order for the glucogen contained in the flour to react with the water. Thanks to this, the dough will roll out well and no cracks will appear on its surface.
Step 5
The resulting shortbread dough can be rolled out on any flat surface, after sprinkling it with flour.
