Laminate is one of the most inexpensive coatings that can give a room a stylish modern look. But, unfortunately, it is not as durable. Before starting work on its repair, you must thoroughly clean the floor from dust and dirt.

Scratches on laminate flooring are one of the most common troubles that happen with this finishing material. The less expensive the flooring is, the easier it is to scratch it. You can eliminate such a defect with a wax crayon, which is sold in the furniture fittings departments. The color of the pencils can be different, so you need to choose the one that is closest to the color scheme of the laminate.

It should be noted that wax crayons are soft and hard. You will need a hard one to repair scratches on this flooring. Before starting work, the wax must be warmed up. For this purpose, you can use a lighter or gas stove. After that, the damage must be wiped off: as if "shading" the scratch with wax. There is another way to fix this defect: with a laminate repair kit. It contains a special putty made on the basis of wax, the color of which can also be different. It is applied to the scratch with a rag and rubbed into the surface of the floor covering until the defect disappears or becomes unobtrusive.

There are special restorative compounds for laminate flooring on the market. They resemble scratch putty in consistency. But they perform not only a visual, but also a protective function. The color of the composition is selected in accordance with the floor covering. Before starting work, the crack must be thoroughly cleaned of dirt and dust (it is recommended to use a vacuum cleaner). After that, the recess is filled with a covering mixture so that it forms a single whole with the floor surface.

Deep damage on the laminate can also be repaired with a masking compound, but the appearance of the floor after such a repair leaves much to be desired. Masters advise in these cases to use putty based on epoxy resin or use the epoxy itself. If necessary, it can be tinted with a color scheme. The same applies to the restoration of chipped floor surfaces. These damage must be pre-leveled as much as possible, cleaned of dirt and dust and filled with a layer of epoxy resin. The result of the work largely depends on how correctly the color of the putty or color scheme is chosen.
