Cottage cheese is made exclusively from milk. There are no dyes, artificial additives or preservatives in it. But do not rush to take the first package that comes across from the shelf in the supermarket. Only a high-quality product will bring benefit and pleasure.
Loose, mouth-watering mountains of cottage cheese on the market or neat packaging in the store - wherever you are going to buy it, always pay attention to the following:
- Name. The inscription "curd product" means that milk protein has been partially replaced by vegetable one.
- Color. It should be white or slightly creamy. If it is yellowish or brownish, this is a stale product, and if it is pinkish, it means that the cottage cheese has long ago deteriorated.
- Taste. You won't be able to try the product before buying it in a store, but there is such an opportunity on the market, and you should definitely use it. The taste of cottage cheese should be almost neutral, with a slight sourness. If it is sweet, then sugar has been added to the product, possibly to mask an unpleasant taste. Sour curd testifies that it was prepared from strongly sour curdled milk.
- Consistency. It is quite possible to evaluate it visually: the product should be dense and soft.
- Protein content. Take the time and see how much protein 100 g of the product contains. Cottage cheese, which contains 20% protein, is much healthier than the one containing 10% protein.
- Shelf life. Try to buy only the product with today's date and remember that cottage cheese can be stored for no more than 2-3 days.
