It is important for people to know about foods rich in saturated fat and trans fats as they can raise blood cholesterol levels. With high cholesterol, a person is at increased risk of developing certain medical conditions, such as atherosclerosis, stroke, and heart attack.
Instructions
Step 1
Coffee
It has been proven that the use of brewed, rather than instant, coffee leads to an increase in cholesterol, since boiling extracts fats from coffee beans. Coffee contains compounds - specifically a substance called cafeestol - that can increase cholesterol levels in the body. Part of this is protected by special paper filters that are in coffee machines, they put an obstacle to such components. But you can't always drink coffee made in a special machine, can you? In other cases, the constant intake of unfiltered coffee can increase the level of "bad" cholesterol.
And even more so, cholesterol can also increase in those who prefer to drink not pure coffee (espresso or lungo), but, for example, cappuccino or latte, which are made on the basis of fatty milk.
Step 2
Butter
Butter contains a lot of saturated fatty acids (about 63%) and about 4% of the so-called trans fatty acids (partially hydrogenated vegetable fats). Trans fatty acids are known to be harmful to health.
One tablespoon of unsalted butter contains 31 milligrams (mg) cholesterol and 7.2 grams (g) saturated fat.
Since butter is high in saturated fat, people with high cholesterol should control the amount of butter they consume.
Doctors advise: people with high cholesterol levels to monitor the consumption of butter. Experts suggest substituting healthier alternatives for butter, such as avocado or olive oil.
Step 3
Egg yolks
Is there cholesterol in chicken eggs? Of course, it is and is found mainly in the egg yolk. At the same time, the average content of this substance there is 370 mg per 1 yolk with protein. If a person begins to eat a large number of them every day for a long time, then this can lead to changes in the biochemical analysis of blood. Do eggs raise blood cholesterol levels? As with any food, eggs increase the level of fat in the blood and affect the metabolism of cholesterol in the liver.
If the level of cholesterol is significantly increased, then you can only give up the yolks, continuing to eat egg whites. If the indicators of fat metabolism are not changed much, you should eat no more than 3-4 eggs per week. But egg whites can be used without much restriction.
