The first mentions of the healing properties of valerian date back to the 1st century BC. In official and folk medicine, valerian tinctures and decoctions are recommended to be used to strengthen the nervous system. They are also used as an antispasmodic agent, as well as to improve digestion. The name of the plant, translated from Latin, means to be healthy. And that speaks for itself.

Instructions
Step 1
For healing infusions and decoctions from valerian, plant roots are used, which contain organic acids (valerian, acetic, formic, malic), essential oils, tannins and alkaloids. Valerian roots are harvested in August-October, after the plant has faded and the seeds fall off.
Gently dig up the plant with a shovel, shake the soil from the root and separate it from the stem. Rinse well under running water and air dry. You cannot use the oven to harvest valerian roots, because at high temperatures, essential substances evaporate, and the roots lose their medicinal properties. Store dried roots in tightly closed glass jars, away from other aromatic herbs and foods.
Step 2
To strengthen the nervous system and for insomnia, take 5 g of valerian roots, pour a glass of cold water and put on a small fire. Cook for two hours. Then remove the broth from heat, cool and strain through three to four layers of gauze. This broth can be added to baths and / or taken 8-10 drops 3 times a day.
Step 3
With irritability, tearfulness and increased anxiety, prepare the following decoction: thoroughly grind the valerian root in a mortar. Boil water and pour two cups of boiling water into a thermos. Add a tablespoon of powdered valerian roots and leave to infuse for about six hours. Then strain the broth through a gauze filter and cool. Drink in equal portions throughout the day.
Step 4
With insomnia, neurosis and heart palpitations, it is recommended to take a bath before going to bed with the addition of a decoction of valerian. To do this: boil two liters of water and pour 500 g of valerian roots with boiling water. Let it brew for an hour and a half, then strain the broth and pour it into a bath with warm water.
