Plastic still dominates freezing methods, but it doesn't last forever and will end up in the trash can one day and go to the landfill to live out its five hundred years. But there are other forms and types of packaging for freezing, more environmentally friendly and cheaper, which are already in the house of every family.
Glass
Thick-walled glass jars, with a wide mouth, ideal for freezing. In many stores you can find special glassware for freezing of different shapes and sizes.
When frozen in glass containers, there are subtleties:
- do not fill the jar to the brim, leave 3-5 cm;
- first put the jar in the freezer without a lid for 1-3 hours and only then screw it up.
Metal
Open canned food, for example, corn, stew or peas, is perfectly stored in a freezer in a factory jar, and then defrost in warm water for half an hour or an hour.
In addition, frost-resistant metal containers, sealed and waterproof, with silicone gaskets under the lid appeared on the market. This form will last more than one year and will fully justify the high price.
Paper
If you need to freeze food for a short period of time (2-3 weeks), then you can wrap it in unbleached paper or wax paper. For better preservation, you need to wrap the product two or three times.
Ready-made semi-finished products are perfect for freezing in paper: sausages, sausages, nuggets, smoked meat, etc.
Aluminium foil
Foil is very fragile, but with careful use it is a great option for a freezer. Foil is great for freezing cheese, meat, fish and poultry.
Cardboard
Tetra bags made of milk, juice or cream, with a twist-off lid. Especially good for storing broths, as waterproof and do not react to expansion. Thoroughly rinse the bag, lid and opening, pour the liquid using a funnel and place in the freezer. As with all opaque packaging - sign the package.
Without packaging
Fruits and vegetables do not need to be packed, for example bananas, tomatoes or peaches can be frozen whole and unpacked. After defrosting, peaches are easier to peel, and tomatoes are easier to chop when frozen.
