Utility knife
The name speaks for itself, it suits everything. These knives are made of steel, blade length 12-15 cm, plastic or wooden handle. It has a number of advantages: it is very convenient for them to peel vegetables or cut fish, it is inexpensive, and is sold everywhere. The handle is non-slip, usually lightweight and fits comfortably in the hand. But there are also disadvantages: cutting meat or cheese is already problematic. Requires constant sharpening. Wooden handles are often painted, and then washing your hands is not so easy.
Serrated knife
This knife has a serrated toothed edge. There are many models of this knife: for cheese, for bread, for tomatoes and so on. In fact, it is enough to have one of the presented line of models. Advantages: it is easy for them to cut bread, because of the serrated surface, the crust is easy to cut, and the flesh does not deform. When slicing cheese, it turns out to be even, thin slices. It is not very expensive, does not require sharpening. Disadvantages: due to the lack of sharpening, it will last for 2-3 years, then it starts to "tear" the edges of the tomatoes, slips off when slicing the onion, and the rings are not very even. It is absolutely not suitable for cutting carrots or beets.
Antibacterial knife
One of the varieties of a steel knife, it is also called a knife with an "anti-stick" surface. The blade of the knife is treated with a special coating, often with a pattern. Advantages: all the same as with a conventional steel knife. Well, and, perhaps, an unusual appearance, thanks to which it is suitable as a gift. Disadvantages: boiled potatoes and processed cheese, despite the declared characteristics, stick to the blade with excellent success, it is necessary to wash it immediately after use, otherwise it will be difficult to scrape off the adhering from the anti-stick surface. In general, it is useless in the household.
Ceramic knives
They appeared on sale quite recently and immediately took one of the leading places in the ranking of knives. These knives are lighter than metal ones, the feeling is that the knife slides when cutting, there is no need to carry out several times in one place - "sawing". The blades are from 8 to 18-20 cm, so you can easily choose the one you need. Advantages: very sharp, with proper care it will last a long time. Perfectly cuts raw vegetables and fruits, and meat, even melted, turns out to be neat cubes, and not shapeless pieces. No sharpening required. But there are also disadvantages: first of all, the very high price. Fragile - should not be dropped or thrown into a sink. It is not recommended to cut frozen meat and fish, as well as meat where there may be bones. It is strictly forbidden to use on glass boards - the blade crumbles. Because of the very sharp blade, it is recommended to wash from the "back" side, otherwise there is a chance of severe injury.
Pizza knife
Just a godsend for pizza lovers, thanks to it, you can quickly and effortlessly divide any baked goods into the desired number of pieces. The knife model is presented in two variations. The first is a disc, one part of which is placed in a plastic case. The second is a disc on a high handle. In terms of functionality, they are the same, the choice of a specific model is a matter of taste. Advantages: the disc moves easily over the pizza, making a neat cut, the filling does not creep, hands and dishes remain clean. Suitable for cutting rolled dough. Disadvantages: high price, rarely used.
Universal knife sets
Many people think that the easiest way is to buy a set of knives on a stand and stop there. The set includes 4 knives, a hatchet and scissors. Sometimes there are sets with peelers. Advantages: it is easy to choose the size you need from 4 knives, and the hatchet is indispensable for cutting meat and some greens. It is convenient to cut fish and seafood with scissors. Disadvantages: very high price for a quality set. 1-2 knives from the set are used, the rest are just standing. A bulky design takes up a lot of space, especially in small kitchens.
