The Greeks are extremely hospitable people and they love to set tables on a grand scale and with all their hearts, even for the most insignificant reason. And the main thing that never ceases to amaze in the dishes of the local cuisine is the simplicity of tastes and their combinations.

Almost every region of the sunny country has its own unique local cuisine.

On the islands, they adore seafood dishes, on the mainland they eat more meat. On the largest and most picturesque island of Crete, preference is given to dishes that combine vegetables with legumes, meat and various fish. Halkidiki is famous for its abundance of a wide variety of seafood.

The city of Volos offers numerous hearty snacks to accompany local herbal alcoholic liqueurs. In the Peloponnese, Epirus and Thessaly, meat is expertly fried, excellent sausages and cheeses are made. At the same time, their own specialty is prepared on any holiday. A special giblet soup with aromatic spices is considered a traditional Easter dish. At Christmas, a specialty turkey is served, which is stuffed with wonderful liver and pine nuts, or it can be a suckling pig, masterfully baked in the oven until golden brown.

The aroma of Greece is a mixture of aromas of herbs, which perfectly combines the light scent of rosemary with the freshness of mint, the spicy aroma of coriander with basil and parsley and, of course, oregano, dried by the generous Greek sun. That is why the same Greek salad, also known as horjatiki, should definitely be tasted only here, at least for comparison. It seems to be the same ingredients, the same tomatoes, cucumbers and bell peppers. But olives are amazing, fleshy; olive oil is the freshest, as if fresh from the press, and feta, which melts in your mouth and leaves a bright juicy taste of summer on your tongue.

For dessert, delicious nut rolls made of thin filo puff pastry, reminiscent of baklava, are served. Walnuts, almonds, pistachios and raisins fill the baked goods with a unique taste. The Greeks also love coffee, thick and aromatic, which is served in cups and always with a glass of water.

It is definitely worth visiting this wonderful country and trying the local yummy.
