Cooking dried apricot compote

Dried apricot compote is a fairly easy-to-prepare drink, which is much healthier than carbonated drinks with a high sugar content. In order to prepare it, only three main ingredients are enough - dried apricots, sugar and water.

So, the classic recipe for dried apricot compote involves the use of 200 grams of raw materials, which should account for half a glass of sugar and 1 liter of water. This ratio of ingredients will provide the finished compote with a fairly rich, but not too sweet taste, so if you prefer sweeter drinks, you can increase the amount of sugar. In addition, it should be borne in mind that the variety and, accordingly, the degree of sweetness of the dried apricots used can be different, so if the raw materials you use are very sweet, you can put a little less sugar.

From this amount of products, a little more than 1 liter of the finished drink will turn out. If a larger amount of compote is required, the indicated proportions should be increased, observing the ratio between them. For example, to get twice as much compote, you need to take 400 grams of dried apricots, 1 glass of sugar and 2 liters of water.

The compote preparation process will take no more than half an hour. First, dried apricots must be thoroughly rinsed, and in order to achieve a richer taste of the drink, it is worth soaking it in the required amount of water for 5-10 minutes. After that, dried apricots in the same water should be put on high heat and brought to a boil. Then you need to add sugar, reduce the heat to a minimum and cook the compote for 10-15 minutes. After removing from heat, it must be cooled to room temperature or lower, after which the drink is ready to drink.

Recipe modifications

The given recipe can be considered basic for making a drink from dried apricots, but if you wish, you can diversify it by adding additional ingredients to it. So, for example, other dried fruits are perfectly combined with dried apricots, which can be mixed with it, observing the proportions of the ingredients so that the total amount of raw materials per 1 liter of water is still about 200 grams. So, for example, you can add raisins, dried apples or pears, prunes or any other dried fruits of your choice to dried apricots.

In addition, sugar in the original recipe can be replaced with honey, and you can also add spices that you like to the compote, for example, cinnamon, anise or other seasonings. You can add an unusual flavor to the drink by adding fresh or dried berries, such as rose hips or lingonberries.
