History

The first appearance of this drink falls on 1824. He appeared in a town called Angostura. This is where the name of the product comes from. The man who first prepared angostura was the military surgeon Benjamin Siegert. Initially, drinking was developed as a medicine that could minimize the negative effects of the tropical climate on the human body. For four years, through trial and error, the doctor tried to create his ideal recipe. He studied the influence and characteristics of a huge number of plants. The result is a unique and unrepeatable alcoholic beverage. In 1830, the production of Angostura began for commercial sales, and already in 1870 this drink became known around the world.

Angostura contains the following components: ginger and angelica root, carnation and cardamom, sandalwood and nutmeg flowers, orange bark, angostura and cinchona trees. It has a bright red-brown hue and a tart, bitter taste.

Modern application

Several manufacturers own the secret recipe for Angostura production, but most of the "bitter drink" is produced on the islands off the Venezuelan coast by House of Angostura. Angostura is currently one of the most common bitters, i.e. bitters.

Currently, the drink is widely used. It is still used for medicinal purposes, as an antipyretic agent, as well as to normalize the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract. A large number of medicinal herbs that make up the drink endow it with pronounced tonic properties. Therefore, Angostura is often used to relieve hangover symptoms.

The culinary arts also did not pass by this spicy drink with a strong specific aroma. It is added to various dishes and pastries to give them an unusual tart smell and taste.

The end of the 19th century was marked by the emergence and popularization of a new type of alcoholic beverages - cocktails. Angostura was perfect as one of the ingredients in a large number of mixed drinks. A couple of drops of a spicy drink fill the cocktail portion with a specific smell. The most common cocktails with this tincture are Diablo, Long Vodka, Old Fashioned, and Red Bikini.
