Heavy (black) rum is a drink with a thick, rich aroma and pungent taste. Such a drink is obtained by very slow fermentation of cane juice (molasses), which adds flavor to the rum. Black rum ranges in color from dense chocolate to golden honey. For color density, burnt sugar is added to rum, giving it a sweetish aftertaste. Heavy rum bottles are traditionally decorated with black labels. But how do they drink this "pirate" drink?

  • For "Mojito" (for 1 glass):

  • - 50 ml dark rum,
  • - 2 teaspoons of dark cane sugar
  • - 1 lime, crushed ice.
  • For a cola cocktail:
  • - ¼ part of rum for 3/4 parts of cola,
  • - slices of lime or lemon,
  • - ice.

Instructions

Step 1

In its pure form, heavy rum is consumed after meals, as a digestif, like whiskey or cognac. Black rum is served in old-fashioned glasses - with a thick bottom and the same walls. Glasses are filled with crushed ice and garnished with lemon slices. Heavy, or black, rum is good for making hot drinks like grog and punch, and punch is one of the most popular drinks in the world. The recipe for its preparation was taken from India by English colonists. In India, punch was called "pang" and was prepared as follows: they took equal amounts of heavy rum, lemon juice and strong tea. Mixed, and then burnt sugar was poured into the mixture in a thin stream.

Having visited England, "pung" began to be called "punch". Wine, cognac, spices and aromatic herbs began to be added to it.

Step 2

Make English punch with burnt sugar. Mash the zest of the lemons with the cane sugar cubes, put them in a saucepan and put them on the fire. Pour in rum and red wine. Heat the mixture, stirring constantly, until the sugar dissolves. As soon as the punch begins to boil, add the hot water and the juice of three lemons. Pour into glasses and serve. This punch is good both hot and cold.

Step 3

The well-known Mojito cocktail is also prepared on the basis of heavy rum. To make it, cut the lime into quarters, add half the mint and sugar, and crush everything together with a wooden crush. Add rum and ice, shake well. Strain the drink, pour into a glass filled with leftover mint and crushed ice. Stick a straw into the glass and garnish with lime wedges.

Step 4

And finally, one more cocktail based on black rum and cola. Mix 1/4 of the rum with ¾ of the cola. Pour into a glass with crushed ice and lime or lemon slices.
