Meatballs, according to culinary experts, come from the Turkic national dish called "kyufta". From the Turkic cuisine, meatballs, which are pieces of fish or minced meat with various fillings, found their way into Austrian and Balkan cuisines, and then spread throughout the world.
Meatballs differ from cutlets in that they contain different vegetables and cereals. So, this dish can include oatmeal, buckwheat, rice, potatoes, as well as dried fruits.
In the preparation of meatballs with rice, only wheat or rice flour is used as breading. It is best not to fry meatballs, but to stew or bake in a thick, rich gravy.
To make delicious meatballs with rice and gravy, you will need the following foods:
- 1 kg of minced meat (meat, fish);
- 200 g of rice;
- onions - 1 pc.;
- carrots - 1 pc.;
- 1 tbsp. l. mayonnaise;
- salt, black pepper (according to your taste).
Gravy requires the following ingredients:
- 3 tbsp. l. sour cream;
- 2 tbsp. l. mayonnaise;
- 2 tbsp. l. wheat flour;
- 100 ml of tomato sauce;
- 200 ml of water;
- salt, pepper - to taste.
Rinse the rice and boil until half cooked, and then mix it with the minced meat. Rinse onions and carrots, peel and chop finely, then fry in a small amount of vegetable oil in a pan. Add the resulting frying to the minced meat and mix well. Further, mayonnaise, pepper and salt should be added to the minced meat, and after that the minced meat should be mixed well.
Form meatballs from the resulting minced meat and put them in a special baking dish.
In the meantime, get busy making the meatball gravy. Combine all ingredients in a separate container: tomato sauce, water, sour cream, mayonnaise, wheat flour, add salt and pepper to your taste.
Pour the gravy over meatballs with rice, laid out in the form, and simmer for about 30-35 minutes.
The end result is a simple, tasty, and truly homemade dish. An excellent side dish for meatballs with rice and gravy will be potatoes, pasta or vegetables.
