Coconut is an overseas delicacy and a tough nut to crack at the same time. In cooking, both its pulp and delicious coconut water are used (some people mistakenly consider it coconut milk). However, before you can get to them, you need to chop the coconut. This will take some effort.
It is necessary
-
- corkscrew or awl
- a hammer
- plastic bag
- knife
- Bowl
- cocktail tubes
Instructions
Step 1
Find three black dots near the coconut, they are located at the base of the fruit. These points are also called eyes, with their help the coconut is attached to the palm tree. Feel the eyes with your finger - one is usually softer than the other two. Take a corkscrew, awl, or sharp scissors and use them to pierce the coconut. Use a hammer to speed up the process. Tap it on the handle of the tool.
Step 2
Use a sharp tool (awl or scissors) to increase the diameter of the resulting hole to 5-10 millimeters. The hole should be wide enough for you to drain the coconut water through. You can also make a second hole in one of the remaining eyes - this way the liquid will flow out faster.
Step 3
Turn the nut over and drain the coconut water into a bowl or other suitable container. Use this delicious drink for tropical cocktails. Or insert a cocktail straw into the hole and drink coconut water straight from the coconut, as you do on beaches in Thailand or Brazil. The drink must be eaten immediately, otherwise it will turn sour and become unusable.
Step 4
Place the coconut in a plastic bag. It is necessary to chop the coconut in a bag so that small fragments of the shell do not scatter to the sides. Take a heavy hammer and tap the nut with it, turning it gently. The coconut shell should crack at its thinnest point. If the crack does not appear, increase the force of the blow and knock on the nut until it splits in two. Split the resulting pieces into smaller pieces to make it easier to separate the flesh from the shell.
Step 5
Remove the chopped coconut chunks from the bag. Take a small knife and use it to separate the flesh from the shell. Rinse the resulting pulp in clean water. Now it can be cut into wedges and eaten, or made into coconut for baking.
