Try honey to taste - it should be tart and completely melt in your mouth, leaving no residue or particles. A sign of natural honey is a slight burning sensation in the mucous membranes of the nose and throat. The taste of caramel suggests that the honey was heated in order to represent the old one as just harvested. And when heated, this product loses its medicinal properties. If there is no astringency and the taste is bland, then you have sugar honey.

Consider carefully the structure of the product. Natural honey contains particles of wax, pollen and even bee wings. If the honey is absolutely uniform, then it is definitely not a real product. Examine the surface of the honey. Moving bubbles, foam, and sour odor indicate fermentation, and such a product is dangerous to eat.

Step 4

Place a spoonful of honey in a glass of lukewarm water to check for extraneous sediments. The honey should completely dissolve, and the water should become slightly cloudy. Sediment on the bottom or particles of the mixture on the surface indicate the presence of foreign matter in the product. Drain the water carefully, leaving a residue at the bottom, and drip acetic acid onto it. If you hear a hiss, then chalk has been mixed into the honey.

Step 5

Prepare a 50% aqueous solution of honey and drop ammonia into it. The liquid turned brown or a brown precipitate fell out - starch syrup was added to the honey. Put some honey on a newspaper. The paper should not get wet, and the drop will remain elastic.

Step 6

Drop iodine on honey. If the color of the drop has changed to blue, then there is an admixture of starch in the honey. Or dilute honey with water in a ratio of 1 to 2, bring the solution to a boil and add iodine to it. A change in the color of iodine indicates an admixture of starch or flour. Add a spoonful of honey to hot cow's milk. If the milk is curdled, then you have purchased sugar honey.
