When buying honey, few people think about whether they just bought a real product. Unfortunately, the facts of fraud are increasing, since it is difficult to identify a fake without laboratory tests. How do you try to recognize the real product?
Instructions
Step 1
Most often, instead of honey, customers purchase dyed sugar syrup, which does not bring any benefit to the body. Honey can be of different colors, but it must be stringy. Dip a spoon into it, scoop up some of this product with it and scroll over the jar. Real honey should be wrapped around a spoon, and not broken off with "threads" or flowed off the spoon like jelly.
Step 2
Examine a jar of honey to light. An authentic product, whatever color it is, will remain transparent. There should be no sediment at the bottom of the jar. If you have one, do not buy this product. Perhaps it was made with the addition of mechanical impurities. Put some honey on your finger and rub it in your hands. Real honey does not form lumps, but will be completely torn apart.
Step 3
To form the desired thickness and viscosity, scammers use starch or ordinary flour. It is impossible to test honey for these components on the market. Only at home can you scoop up some honey and drop 1-2 drops of iodine on it. If the product turns into an ink color, this is a fake.
Step 4
At home, you can check if honey contains excess sugar. To do this, heat a spoonful of honey with a lighter. Is there a dark border around the edges? You have received a fake product. Real honey will only slightly change color when heated.
Step 5
Take a piece of paper and drip 1-2 drops of honey. Watch what happens to the paper for 20 minutes while it spreads. If the paper is wet through, you have purchased a counterfeit product.
Step 6
Another way to test honey for authenticity is to dilute a spoonful of honey in warm water. A product made without impurities will dissolve in water without leaving a cloudy residue. When honey is added to hot tea, the color of the drink will not change.
