Many housewives prepare bassbus almost every day and cannot get enough of a simple and tasty dish. An attractive dessert will delight both adults and children, and subtle notes of citrus will add a subtle touch of romance and warmth to pastries.
Where did the name "Basbus" come from and what is it
"Basbus" is the name of one of the famous Arabian delicacies. The history of the word is very interesting. In a distant Arab country there lived an attractive seller of sweets. When young girls asked the price of delicacies, he answered: "Bass busa", which in Arabic means "just one kiss." It is difficult to verify the reliability of this story, however, the name stuck and is used to this day.
Today, there are a huge number of variations of the bassbus recipe, but the most popular is still the pie with the addition of semolina and coconut.
The classic recipe for cooking bass
Basbus in its recipe is very similar to manna, however, homemade bass contains a large amount of coconut, which fundamentally distinguishes it from a relative. For a classic recipe, the following ingredients are required:
- semolina - 250 g;
- kefir with high fat content - 250 ml;
- wheat flour - 4 tablespoons;
- coconut flakes - 250 g;
- 2 chicken eggs, preferably large;
- 2, 5 cups granulated sugar;
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- half a lemon.
Consider a step-by-step bassbus recipe.
- Mix semolina with kefir in a deep bowl. Mix thoroughly and leave for 30 minutes. During this time, the semolina will swell and become larger.
- Beat 2 eggs. Better to do this with a blender, so the cake will turn out more magnificent.
- Add the beaten eggs to the semolina and kefir mixture and stir thoroughly until smooth.
- Add 1 teaspoon of baking powder, 250 grams of granulated sugar and flour to the resulting mixture. Knead the resulting mass thoroughly until smooth.
- Gradually mix half a pack of coconut flakes into the resulting dough.
- Pour the resulting dough into a mold, previously greased with butter. We put to bake in the oven at 180 degrees. Bake until tender. Usually the bass is baked for half an hour.
- As the cake is baked, the syrup is prepared. To do this, 150 grams of granulated sugar is mixed with a glass of warm water. As soon as the sugar dissolves, the juice of half a lemon is added to the liquid.
- Once the cake is ready, it is taken out of the oven and placed on a wooden tray. The syrup prepared in advance is poured over the entire surface of the bass. Do not be afraid that the cake will be almost completely in the liquid. This is the trick of oriental sweetness.
- Once the cake has cooled, it can be removed from the tin and cut into square pieces. Sprinkle the rest of the coconut on top. Eastern sweetness is ready!
Like all oriental delicacies, bassbus turns out to be very sweet. If you don't like desserts so sweet, you can reduce the amount of sugar to your liking.
Tricks of experienced chefs
As already mentioned, how many housewives exist, there are so many bassbus recipes. Some experienced chefs alter the classic recipe a bit in order to get unusual combinations. Let's take a look at some of the tricks for making bass.
- After the classic bass is ready, add 1 teaspoon of brandy or coffee liqueur to the syrup of sugar, water and lemon. This makes the bass more aromatic and refined.
- You can add 2 teaspoons of honey to the dough, however, then you will have to recalculate the proportions of sugar so that the delicacy does not turn out sugary.
- There are options in which fresh fruits and nuts are put in the dough. However, after that, the bass stops looking like a manna and becomes baklava.
- Some recipes involve putting fudge on the finished bass. You can make a creamy or chocolate fudge, however, you will have to recalculate the amount of sugar again.
Calorie content of the finished dish
Delicious treats will always be in place. Pleasant tea-drinking and bass-bus will make the evening unforgettable. However, the fair sex, who carefully monitor their weight, cannot fail to note that such a dish will surely be very high in calories and not at all suitable for an evening snack. Do not despair, the calorie content of the finished delicacy does not exceed 200 kcal per 100 grams of pie. This nutritional value can be compared to a standard chocolate chip cookie or a serving of ice cream.
Despite all the delights of an oriental delicacy, it is worth remembering that bassbus really contains a fairly large amount of sugar and can bring not only benefits, but also harm. You should not eat large quantities of bassbus and give it to young children, as in addition to sugar allergy, citrus allergy may occur. People suffering from diabetes and obesity need to eat dessert with extreme caution. Eating a lot of bassbus can lead to an exacerbation of the disease and an increase in blood sugar levels.
