Sauces add zest to dishes. You can make them yourself or buy a jar from a reputable manufacturer in the supermarket - it all depends on your culinary skills and the dish you plan to serve. However, sometimes some of the sauce is left unused. How can you preserve it without sacrificing taste?

Instructions

Step 1

If you need to store the prepared sauce for two to three hours, put it in a water bath. Do not let the liquid boil - this will impair its taste. Do not heat egg-oil-based sauces above 60 degrees, otherwise they will stratify.

Step 2

Do you want to keep your homemade sauce for a longer period? Refrigerate it at room temperature, transfer to a clean glass jar with a tight-fitting lid, and refrigerate. Mixtures prepared on the basis of meat, fish, mushroom or vegetable broth are stored for about a week. Milk and cream sauces retain their quality for no more than a day.

Step 3

Homemade mayonnaise is stored for 2-3 days, and the same sauce with the addition of mustard - up to 6 days. By the end of this period, the mixture does not deteriorate, but its taste deteriorates significantly. Make sure that no pieces of foreign food get into the sauce, put away for storage - from such additives it can turn sour.

Step 4

Industrial sauces retain their taste for much longer - from two months to six months. Place them in the bottom section of the refrigerator. It is better to replace metal covers with more reliable glass or rubber ones. If the sauce is packed in a can, transfer it to a glass or china container and seal it tightly.

Step 5

Do not open all packages purchased for future use. Place closed cans in a pantry or a buffet and uncork only after the previous package has been used up. Please note that the less preservatives in the product, the shorter the shelf life. When putting the opened jar into the refrigerator, be sure to read the label - there are indicated the periods during which the product can be eaten.

Step 6

Natural tomato paste and freshly cooked horseradish have the shortest shelf life, while industrial mayonnaise, ketchup and mustard can be stored for a very long time. Natural soy sauce also belongs to centenarians - an open bottle can last for several weeks, provided that it is tightly closed.
