Chips are one of the most delicious snacks made from thin slices of potatoes. Most people are used to buying the finished product in packs, but there are those who know that it is much tastier to cook it yourself.
How did the chips come about?
In 1853, millionaire Cornelius Vanderbilt visited one of the fashionable American restaurants. He ordered potatoes, and then began to show his moody nature, sending the dish to the kitchen several times. He complained that the potatoes were cut too coarsely.
Then the chef of this restaurant decided to play a trick on the millionaire. He cut the potatoes into very thin slices, fried them in a large amount of oil, and served them. How surprised he was when Vanderbilt not only did not make a scandal, but also praised the new dish very much.
After some time, the dish appeared on the restaurant menu, and later, thin potatoes were produced in packages.
How to cook chips in the oven
Manufacturers of modern chips are trying to save money, so they add a large amount of chemicals to their products. To protect yourself from all kinds of harmful additives, prepare the chips yourself. To do this, you need the following ingredients:
- medium-sized potatoes (4-5 pcs.);
- foil;
- vegetable oil;
- salt and spices.
Wash and peel the potato tubers. Thinly cut them into round plates, try to keep the thickness of the plates not exceeding 3-4 millimeters. The thicker the potatoes are cut, the longer they cook and the less crisp they will be. If this is more convenient, you can use a vegetable cutter.
Place the slices in a bowl and add 1 teaspoon vegetable oil. After stirring the contents of the bowl, drain the oil that has gotten to the bottom.
Line a baking sheet with foil. It is advisable to cover the foil with a non-stick spray. Place the potatoes on a baking sheet in one layer.
Place the dish in an oven preheated to 200 degrees. The chips will take about 20-30 minutes to cook. Control the cooking process, as its time depends on the individual characteristics of your oven.
Place the finished chips on a napkin or paper towel to remove any remaining oil. It remains only to salt the dish and add spices of your choice.
