If you cook whole carrots in a saucepan on a gas or electric stove, it will take about 18-20 minutes after the water has boiled. This process can be shortened by 5 minutes if the vegetable is cut into small pieces.
If you use a microwave to cook carrots, then this will take about 10 minutes. But in a slow cooker, cooking this vegetable will last about 30 minutes, depending on the selected program. One of the fastest ways is to cook carrots in the oven. After boiling water, it will be ready in 12-15 minutes. All these characteristics will vary depending on the type and power of the device, as well as the size of the product.
How to cook carrots properly
Regardless of the kitchen appliance in which you want to cook carrots, there are some prerequisites that must be observed.
1. Before cooking, thoroughly rinse root vegetables from dirt and cut off damaged areas.
2. Pour water into the container a few centimeters above the level of the carrots.
3. Vegetables may stick to the bottom during cooking. Therefore, they are regularly stirred.
4. The readiness of the root vegetable is usually checked with a knife. Cooked carrots will pierce easily. If you use a fork to do this, then digested vegetables will fall apart when pierced.
5. After cooking, the water is drained and the carrots are left to cool. Then it is peeled.
6. Carrots should not be salted during cooking, it is also undesirable to cut them into cubes, otherwise it will not be possible to preserve all its taste and nutrients.
